CASE STUDIES
Ross-on-Wye - Private
The client had built a large concrete structure into the side of a hill below his farmhouse. He intended to keep classic cars in the garage area, he had clad the walls externally with natural stone and wanted to create a natural pond area on the roof of the structure.
Brief
To tank the roof area that formed the pond.
Solution
From the start there was only one material in the running for this project, polyurea. Polyurea is a polyurethane based hot spray, fast cure product that has upto 500% elasticity to allow for movement within the structure. No special attention is required for movement joints, construction joints or cracks. We simply thicken up the depth of coating in those areas. It is safe to say that as a company we would not have undertaken this work with a guarantee with any other product.
Pontypool Leisure Centre - Kier Western
Following the refurbishment of the leisure centre, where a new concrete pool was constructed inside the original where no allowance had been made for waterproofing the old pool structure in the basement undercroft sprang leaks in many places.
Brief
To seal individual isolated leaks and tank the old structure to improve its integrity.
Solution
Chase out all cracks, joint and isolated leaks and seal using Vandex waterproofing materials, Super slurry coating, uni mortar 2 and plug. Persistent leaks were injected with Deneef Hydro Active resin. The surface of the whole concrete structure was prepared by grinding with dust extraction equipment fitted, then a spray coating of Vandex BB75E was applied to a depth of 3 mm. Vandex BB75E has an elastomeric additive to take up any movement of future small cracking in the structure.
Bideford - Engineering Factory
The fire sprinkler system for the factory had 2no. Braithwaite galvanised steel header tanks that had corroded and were leaking badly.
Brief
To internally line the tanks.
Solution
The tanks were drained down and the sludge removed, they were shot blasted to prepare the metal surface, then primed with a zinc-rich metal primer. The worst of the leaks were fibre glassed over and all joints where four panels meet were plugged with a filling compound. Again only one product was considered for this project. Polyurea hot spray applied to a depth of 3 mm to the wall sand floor surfaces sealed the tank completely and due to the fast cure the tanks were immediately returned to use.
Newton Abbot - Cashco Depot
The depot handles large amounts of coinage for the post office, the weight of the trolleys used on small steel wheels was cutting up the existing floor surface, but the high security building is in round the clock use.
Brief
To apply a new floor topping that would cure quickly and withstand the constant wear.
Solution
Splitting the floor into 3 areas, the existing floor covering was removed and the concrete slab ground using dust extraction equipment using MMA.
Firstly a primer is applied, then a 3 mm self leveling floor screed broadcast with silica sand anti-slip finally 2nd coats of coloured sealer were applied. The system had cured 30 minutes after application allowing trafficking of the trolleys immediately. Each section took approx. 4 hours to complete for a total area of 120m2
